In all cases, if the damage was caused by the negligence of someone else you are entitled to claim compensation.

That is where Sheldon Davidson can help you.

Call one of our expert injury lawyers today for an initial consultation. You will be met with someone who, firstly will show you compassion and understanding for the pain and inconvenience you have suffered.

For a once able-bodied person to suddenly be affected by paralysis of any type is shocking and hard to deal with in itself, but for it to be as a result of someone else’s carelessness must be a bitter pill to swallow.

No doubt your life has changed dramatically as a result and you have likely suffered some level of financial hardship also as a result.

Firstly, we are sorry that you have suffered in this way.

We pride ourselves on our warm and empathic approach and receive much positive feedback about this from satisfied clients across the Greater Manchester Region.

If we believe we can do this, and you subsequently choose Sheldon Davidson to represent you we will do so on a no win no fee basis, which basically means that if we fail, there will be no legal fees for you to pay. So, there is nothing to lose. Pick up the phone and call us for that initial conversation today.

What is paralysis?

Paralysis can be defined as complete loss of feeling and/or movement in one or more of the body’s limbs. Vital bodily functions can also be affected such as blood flow, breathing, normal function of organs, glands and other tissues. It occurs when there is a disconnect between the brain and impacted muscles and the way messages would normally pass between them. It can be complete, or partial and can occur on one, or both sides of the body. With this in mind, any injury that causes paralysis is deemed extremely serious when pursuing financial compensation, due to the significant impact on the affected person’s life and the likely adjustments that are required to their lives and that of their family as a result of the injury.

Sheldon Davidson lawyers are experts in paralysis injuries and we strongly believe that there is no better law firm to fight such a case on your behalf across the Greater Manchester region.

Common causes of paralysis

Paralysis can occur naturally and most commonly as the result of a stroke. It can also be brought on accidentally, as the result of an accident where trauma to the head or spine occurs. Common causes of head or spinal trauma are:

  • Road traffic accidents
  • Physical Assaults
  • Sports injuries
  • Accidents at work, home, or school
  • Falls

The different types of Paralysis injury

Monoplegia – where only one limb is affected (usually arms). This normally occurs as a result of a neurological illness, or specific damage to a part of the brain that controls movement.

Hemiplegia – where one whole side of the body is affected. This normally occurs as the result of a stroke. This type of paralysis can be temporary.

Paraplegia – where the legs and pelvis are affected as a result of an injury to the spinal cord in the lower back.

Quadriplegia – where arms, legs and torso are affected. This is the most severe form of paralysis and it occurs as a result of an injury to the spinal cord in the neck. Because the injury is so high up, nerve signals are unable to travel to the limbs, resulting in full paralysis.

The effects of paralysis on a person’s life

Undoubtedly a person’s life is forever changed as a result of paralysis. The impact is huge on the person affected and everyone around them. The emotional and psychological impact is also significant and many people, unsurprisingly struggle to adjust to the inevitable and absolute life changes after such an injury. This is where an expert Sheldon Davidson lawyer can make a real difference. We have many years of experience in managing such cases and have established relationships with organisations that provide excellent emotional support and psychological care for paralysis victims.

We will support you, not only in securing the maximum financial compensation you deserve, but by connecting you with people and organisations who can help you adjust and learn to face life with paralysis. With Sheldon Davidson not only do you get an experienced lawyer to fight your corner in court, but a genuine partner, who understands your pain and who will do everything in their power to help make life as easy as possible going forward.

How much compensation can be expected
when making a paralysis injury claim?

When making any claim for financial compensation the objective from a legal perspective is to establish two main facts. The first is who was at fault (the liable party) and the second is how the victim’s life has been forced to change as a result of the injuries suffered and what the financial cost has been and is expected to continue to be into the future. The following things will be for consideration:

  • Loss of earnings for the victim and family members who provide care
  • Medical costs
  • Costs of on-going, regular care by health professionals or family members
  • Modifications to property and regular transport i.e. family car
  • Costs of equipment to aid independent living
  • Costs of psychological care
