Delayed Diagnosis Claim Cardiff - Ovarian Mass
Miss Daley received £10,000 as a result of a delay in diagnosis of an ovarian mass.
In September 2019, Miss Daley underwent an x-ray of the abdominal area which indicated that she needed to undergo an urgent ultrasound scan due to a mass identified in her lower abdominal region. However, the Defendant hospital failed to refer Miss Daley for an urgent ultrasound scan.
As a result of the Defendant’s failure to provide Miss Daley with the reasonable and appropriate treatment, there was a 10 month delay in the diagnosis and treatment of the abdominal mass. During this period, Miss Daley suffered various symptoms including abdominal bloating, discomfort, indigestion, vomiting, serve stomach pain, carried around a large amount of excess weight and also suffered from increased and anxiety and psychologically. The abdominal mass was so large that it pressed on her bowel and bladder and resulted in the loss of both bladder and bowel control during this period.
Further to this, as a result of the 10-month delay in diagnosis, the mass was approximately 25x 23.5 cm once diagnosed and Miss Daley had to undergo a very intrusive procedure, laparotomy and salpingo-oophorectomy, in July 2020, to remove the mass. Miss Dayley now has very extensive scaring on her abdominal and stomach area as a result undergoing this intrusive procedure. Had the mass been diagnosed at earlier date, Miss Dayley was informed by the Gynaecologist that the mass would have been smaller and she could have undergone less invasive surgery.
