Plane Catches Fire on Runway
This week, British Airways have made headlines after their plane caught fire on a Las Vegas runway.
The Boeing 777 was travelling at 90mph in preparation for take off when the jet caught fire in what has been described by the pilot as a “catastrophic failure” of the left engine.
In total there were 170 people on board, of those, 157 were passengers and 13 crew. Chris Heckney, who was the pilot on board the flight described how in the process of preparing for take off, he heard a “loud bang” and the aircraft veered to the left. It was then that a third pilot on board the flight left the cabin and witnessed just how serious the incident was.
There were at least 14 people taken to hospital for minor treatment. Thankfully there were no fatalities, with British Airways are now being praised for their safe and quick evacuation of the plane.
It’s thought that many on board were tourist heading home to the UK via the Las Vegas to London flight.
Investigations are now underway by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to determine what caused the fire.
Accidents While on Holiday and Abroad
According to research from the Office for National Statistics, 62 million visits abroad were made by UK residents in the 12 months to May 2015.
This is an impressive figure considering our population currently stands at 64.1 million.
Unfortunately, non-fault personal injuries are inevitable and can sometimes happen abroad. Many would agree that suffering a personal injury while on holiday or abroad can be an extremely distressing situation. Not only are you in unfamiliar surroundings, you may be unaware of who to contact if you need medical treatment, which can then potentially affect your planned journey home.
What is normally intended as an enjoyable experience can then turn into a complex, worrying time for you and anyone who may be traveling with you. More often than not, here at Sheldon Davidson Solicitors we find that many of these accidents could sadly have been prevented.
When abroad, if you have suffered an accident whereby your tour operator or package holiday provider failed to ensure your safety, you are entitled to make a claim.
As experienced, professional personal injury solicitors, we can help you with the following holiday accidents:
• Falls caused by faulty safety equipment or unsafe structures such as loose railings on stairs
• Road accidents
• An accident while travelling by air
• Trips or falls caused by badly maintained pathways or floors within the hotel grounds
• Slips on wet floors in the hotel grounds where no warning signage was provided
A growing number of claims are not only limited to incidents, but also food poisoning, as this also falls into the above bracket.
If you have experienced either of the above and are concerned that you have suffered a non-fault injury, then contact our solicitors who will happily discuss your options here, or alternatively call 0808 9000 990.
